What is Motor Pits?

Motor Pits is indexes hundreds of thousands of consumer complaints sent to the NHTSA for each model in the USA. Details of manufacturers safety recalls are also included.

Where does the information come from?

The basic information is from the US Government NHTSA ODI. Motor Pits presents the information in a different way to their web site, but the information is as far as possible unchanged.

This information was last updated in April 2008. We have tried to make it as accurate and useful as possible, but can take no responsibility for its use, misuse, or accuracy. We have not verified this information, and cannot guarantee that it is complete or up-to-date.

Why is it all in capitals?

The capital letters and the lack of spaces between some words come from the original data. It isn't possible to correct this, as corrections would be overwritten when we update the data. All dates are in the format year, month, day.

Can you tell me more about a consumer complaint?

Sorry, no, we know nothing at all about any of the complaints, other than what is published here. We publish them unedited. The NTHSA ODI (link above) may have more information, some of which they charge for. For the recalls, the best source for more information is the manufacturer. We don't have any way to contact manufacturers other than what is here.
